The First Flight Championships is a division within the National Championships that begins on the second day of competition. After the first day of National Championship competition, the top 20 teams that had 1st Round Seeds advance to the Championship Flight and join the 20 teams that earned Bye-seeds throughout the year. The remaining 20 teams with 1st Round Seeds advance to the First Flight Championships, the first qualifying tournament for the next year's championships.
It is a high-caliber event focused on adding to the great experience of the National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships. Dividing the field of 1st round seed qualifiers provides an opportunity for many schools to compete against teams of the same level for the title of First Flight Champion. In addition to the 20 1st Round Seeded teams in the First Flight division, we also invite schools with more than one team or schools who did not earn a seed in the National Championships to compete.
The First Flight Championship will crown a champion as well as trophies for the 1st runners-up. The First Flight Champion's school will also receive a 1st Round seed in the following year's National Championships.
